Unregulated Ladera Ranch Rehab Houses Thread Reveals Why There Is A Serious Concern For Ladera Ranch Residents Safety-  Please Share

Drug Addiction Chart

The attitude, arrogance, and statements of a Next Door Neighbor member who claims to be the owner of one of the Nations Largest Meth Rehabilitation Houses concerns me.

Alcohol and Drug Addiction is a disease. However, I strongly feel Sober Houses, Rehabilitation Houses, and Halfway Houses should require a business license and regulation. It is also alarming that Rehab Houses are an FOR PROFIT BUSINESS. Whereas, Foster Homes have to be NONPROFIT. Change Is Needed! The Fair Housing Law Needs to be amended.

Here is an overview of the Rehab House  thread on Next Door Neighbor

A concerned Ladera Ranch resident voiced their concern about Rehabilitation Houses in an online Petition on Next Door Neighbor:

I am sure by now you have heard about the recently established sober house on 21 Lennox Ct. in Covenant Hills. While I sympathize with people in need of such a facility and am happy about every success story coming out of such treatment, Ladera Ranch simply is not the place.

Woman 1  I recommend you all sign that petition and do something about it NOW before it get’s out of control.

My friend lives in another neighborhood in San JuanCapistrano and they have 10 Sober Living homes. She said there was a moratorium on these homes but it expired, so she went to the City Council meeting this past Tuesday to ask if they can reinstate it.

I have a house in San Juan Hills and there is one there. I will see what I can do in Marbella to make sure no one buys a house here and turns it into a Sober House. Just some advice.…

Woman 2 – Dear Man 2, we are concern about unregulated Pop-Up Rehabilitation Houses. These houses do not need a license or supervision if less than six people live in a home. Every business should be regulated and have to apply for a license. We are also seriously concerned about the transient

Every business should be regulated and have to apply for a license. We are also seriously concerned about the transient life style pop up homes bring to neighborhood streets. I do not want to live next to a hotel.

In addition, the average heroin user relapses 9 to 10 times or dies before they stay clean. Also, the average heroin user goes back to drugs one week after treatment. The loophole law needs to change.

Our children are not safe with unregulated businesses popping up with NO Oversight.

There are No Government oversights or licenses needed for a sober house that houses fewer than seven patients. Sober Rehab houses should be licensed.

Man 2 It is unfortunate that this NIMBYism continues to exist in our society. I have personally seen this attitude lead to the deaths of patients who were unable to access treatment. While I recognize the fear, it is not supported by the facts. Substance Use Disorder is a chronic disease with well defined evidenced based practices that include sober living homes. We should be encouraging treatment not limiting access.

Man 2 I hear your fear and how that is driving your attitude and belief system. Your facts about substance use disorder patients, their response to treatment, and their lifestyle while in a treatment setting are simply not accurate. I believe facts should drive us, not unsubstantiated fears. I understand my idealism, just look at the presidential election.

Woman 3One of the shocking statistics is how many of the residents of sober living homes are wives/mothers addicted to pain killers. Life is not always what is seems.

Many criminals chose rehab house time instead of jail time. I do not desire to have a group home of criminals with no oversight living next to my family. I agree there needs to be treatment centers but there also needs to be regulation.

As far as our next President, at least I have a vote. The above link is from the Federal Government regarding regulation or lack of regulation on rehabs home under 7 addicts.

Woman 2 to Man 2  I am not driven by fear; I am driven by common sense. We chose where we wanted to live. We certainly would have not purchased our home if it was next door to a local business or hotel. Imagine living next door to a For Profit business with no regulation or business license.

Imagine living next door to a For Profit business with no regulation or business license.

Woman 2 to Man 2 It is not fear- our rights were taken from us.

Man 2 to Woman 2 I am well aware of the regulations. I have developed and operated treatment facilities throughout the country. If you choose this path, you should familiarize your self with the American with Disabilities Act. The ADA protects this population (along with many others) and is the reason that if this comes to a court battle, you will

The ADA protects this population (along with many others) and is the reason that if this comes to a court battle, you will loose in Federal Court. I know this because I never lost.

Once again your facts about patients in treatment for a substance use disorder are not accurate. How many sober living houses have you worked in, visited, even seen? From your obvious lack of knowledge, not many. Since your opinion does not come from facts, I just assumed it was driven by emotion. Not clear to me what the other option might be.

Your focus on regulation is a red herring. Unless you are equally upset with the consultant across the street who runs his business without a business license, or the accountant a couple of blocks over who is doing tax returns out of his house. Not sure which of your rights are being taken away from you. It is clear to me that you are trying to take the rights of patients who would seek treatment in their neighborhood away from them.

Let’s be clear, substance abusers are already in your neighborhood, unfortunately most are not in treatment. Understand that I am not trying to change your mind. I know I cannot.

I have this need to put a counterpoint out there so that those with a more open mind than you have a chance to see the other side. I cannot not sit quietly when this type of prejudice raises its ugly head. I am concerned what the next class of citizens might look like that you want to keep out of the neighborhood…

Man 1 thank you so much for your support. I could not agree with you more. And whoever has not yet signed the petition, please do so asap. If you know of someone who has not yet signed, please forward the link to them. We need to fight this as hard as we can. I heard there already is a second sober house planed in Covenant Hills:

https://www.change.org/p/michael-castano… Thank you very much,

Woman 2 to Man 1  Unfortunately when I read Man 2 last post I realized why he was ok with criminals deciding on jail time in Ladera Ranch. Member Man  2 profits from rehab centers. He thought I would be ok with six CPA’s in a house- no that’s a business. I do not want to live next door to a business. These

He thought I would be ok with six CPA’s in a house- no that’s a business. I do not want to live next door to a business. These pop up houses are a unregulated business. Man 2  Yes….I am proud of the time I have spent in the field. We have treated hundreds of thousands of patients, saved thousands of lives, and helped countless families. I hope your career can be as fulfilling and productive.

You guys can go ahead and have the last word, this will be my last post in this thread. I no longer have to deal with rigid and uneducated thinkers like Woman 2, Man 1, and Woman 1 so I will move on.

If there are others who are looking at this thread and are interested in actual facts about this chronic disease , treatment alternatives, and what a typical patient looks like today, I would encourage your to visit SAMHSA.gov. Let’s increase access to treatment, not limit it.

Woman 2 Your viewpoint appears slant. The rehab companies you have vested interest have profited millions from addicts. Sadly, all I can find online about you are reviews about people disappointed with CRC health services. Here is one article about you being the Kingpin of Meth Rehabs http://www.treatmentmagazine.com/special…

I have read numerous other articles that have called the companies you have help operated, scams.

I believe you should have been forthcoming that you have made millions from addicts.

It would appear you have a conflict of interest. My interest is to have all rehab houses licensed. Sadly, the current loop hole in the law allows For Profit Business to run rehabs in residential areas. Change is needed.

Man 2 to Woman 2 Well you made me a liar.

I can’t let a personal attack just sit out there.

Once again your facts are totally inaccurate as you let your bigotry drive your behavior. Show me one reputable article that states any company I have been involved with was a scam.

You are a liar. You make up facts to support your untenable position. You are one very sad and unhappy woman.

I am done with you.

Woman 2 to Man 2 I never called you a liar nor did I personally attack you.

I believe there is a conflict if you make millions from a For Profit Business for Meth Addicts.

It is troubling that when I point out my concerns to a man who owns perhaps, the largest Meth Rehab For-Profit in the national you could lower yourself to name calling.

Your words speak volumes about your company and why I am seriously concerned about the Wild West of pop up rehab houses.

There should be additional regulations. Here are some articles about you and your company CRC.

I also posted an employment review Website where employees of CRC offered their insight. I find it troubling about the lack of staff that was noted. Signed, Concerned Resident For Pop Up Rehab Reform

Woman 2 to Man 2 Here is what one employee states about her working at CRC Meth Rehab- The worst company you could possibly work for! Clinical Supervisor (Former Employee) – San Diego, CA – December 9, 2013

The counselor caseloads are way above the CARF standards and unrealistic for any counselor to be able to provide quality services to the patients.

No salary increases and/or staff appreciation. The hardest part of the job is lack of management support to the staff and overloaded caseloads. The only patients that get a higher level of care are persons with Medi-Cal because the company can make money from the State.

CRC is a company that I would never again work for!

Pros n/a Cons too many to even count

The Rehabilitation House Thread Ends

Might I have been Catfished? I would like to believe the owner of one of the nation’s largest Meth Rehab would not write with such arrogance.

Question: If The Government Requires That ALL Foster Homes Must Be Not Profit and Licensed, Why Are There NO REGULATIONS on Rehabs, Sober Houses, and Halfway Houses that have six people or less?
