Mission Viejo, Neurologist Eleonora Spokoyny Provides Help To A Desperate Patient
The desperate patient I am writing about is me, Lisa a.k.a. HypoGal.
The Neurologist Elenora Spokoyny provides me with hope in a bottle, IVIG treatment.
The following is my story and my review of Dr. Eleonora Spokoyny of Affiliated Neurologist:
Last December my battle with chronic diseases was fierce. As the year came to a close, I felt as if several diseases were invading my body from different directions.
Numerous forms of shooting pains radiated through both sides of my neck; my right bicep felt too heavy to lift, my legs continuously felt weakened and I began to walk with a slight left-sided limp.
The dark red blots on my arms, legs, and neck were my confirmation that my body was being burnt alive.
It was a rough month. Frustrated, desperate and brain fogged I searched ways to prevail.
My gut instinct to survive, catapulted me to schedule an appointment with a Neurologist I had seen numerous years ago, Dr. Spokoyny.
My Experience With Neurologist Dr. Eleonora Spokoyny
Several years earlier, I was trying to find out if the Relapsing Polychondritis that was infesting my body was the cause of my muscle spasms and facial ticks.
Dr. Spokoyny ran several tests on me, including an Electromyogram (EMG).
What Is A Electromyogram Test?
An electromyogram (EMG) is a test that is used to record the electrical activity of muscles.
When muscles are active, they produce an electrical current. This current is usually proportional to the level of the muscle activity.
EMGs can be used to detect the abnormal electrical activity of muscle that can occur in many diseases and conditions.
Abnormal Electromyogram Test EMG present in diseases or conditions such as muscular dystrophy, inflammation of muscles, pinched nerves, peripheral nerve damage (damage to nerves in the arms and legs), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Myasthenia Gravis.
At the time my Electromyogram Test was normal, and Dr. Spokoyny told me to schedule a follow-up appointment.
During this appointment, Dr. Spokoyny gave me wise advice that still resonates in my mind each day. She said it was my job to get and stay healthy.
This incredibly brilliant medical expert reassured me that I must hang on to my life raft.
I felt reassured that she was not another medical specialist telling me, “it is all in my head.” She is a doctor who took the time to listen to my symptoms and try to find a medical diagnosis.
Dr. Spokoyny listened to me, but I did not heed her instruction. I did not schedule a follow-up appointment.
I did not schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Spokoyny, because;
I was tired of being a professional patient.
Sadly, I did not connect my progressive facial and neck weakness with the need for a Neurologist.
I was just too tired.
Years past, my symptoms worsen, my rare condition is confirmed by the National Institutes of Health, and I feel like I am spiraling down a rabbit-hole.
My free fall down the rabbit hole accelerates when my Internist tells me that he is concerned about my new jerking reflex motion. Sympathetically, he instructs me to see a Neurologist immediately.
With humble pie, I schedule an appointment with Dr. Spokoyny.
My 2017 Medical Experience With Neurologist Dr. Elenor Spokoyny
As I awkwardly try to sit down on a chair that faces the doctor behind her desk, I hear my apologetic ramble echo through Dr. Spokoyny’s office.
With grace, the Neurologist accepts my apology, and we move forward. Dr. Spokoyny orders numerous tests that include a biopsy and lab work.
Unfortunately, tests reveal the way my left leg feels, the nerve is almost nonfunctioning.
I am sad, but not surprised by the test results.
After conveying my test results, Dr. Eleonora Spokoyny goes on to tell me about IVIG therapy, and I eagerly nod, yes.
I feel fortunate that Dr. Spokoyny can quickly expedite my health insurance approval for Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment.
Three Months and Three Treatments After My First IVIG Treatment
It has been three months since I began Intravenous immunoglobulin therapy and my body is grateful for this treatment.
My health progression is slow, steady but I feel like I am beginning to come out of the darkness.
Here are a few things I have noticed since I began IVIG treatment and I am not sure if the result is from Intravenous immunoglobin therapy:
- The mind-numbing nerve pain that resonates through my left calf and leaves my left ankle unstable is no longer the focal point of my pain.
- The constant fatigue and chronic pain that screams through my body has declined to a thunderous voice.
- My facial ticks and spasms are not as frequent.
- And, my wow news- My extremely high eye pressure has begun to decline- yay!
I am incredibly grateful that Dr. Spokoyny took the time to try to figure out my medical odyssey.
Cheers to Dr. Spokokny!
