You Need To Know About Medicare Plans A-D

The following is a brief overview for Medicare Programs Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D.

If you receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for two years you are automatically enrolled in Medicare. You will be enrolled in two different types Medicare Programs : Hospital Insurance (Part A) and Medical Insurance (Part B).

Hospital Insurance (Part A) helps pay for inpatient hospital bills and some follow-up care. There is no cost to you for Part A coverage. The taxes you paid while you worked financed this Medicare program.

Medical insurance (Part B) helps pay doctors’ bills, outpatient hospital care and other medical services. If you choose to continue Part B coverage you will need to pay a monthly premium for this coverage.

Medicare Advantage (Part C) is not part of the automatic Medicare Programs you are enrolled in after you receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for two years.

Medicare Part C plans are usually referred to as “Medicare Advantage” plans. All Medicare Advantage plans are run by private companies, and they all combine coverage for hospital stays with coverage for doctor visits. You can choose a plan that includes prescription drug coverage, often at no additional premium, or you can choose a plan without prescription drug coverage. The Medicare Part C plans vary from state to state.

Prescription Insurance (Part D) Everyone with Medicare has access to Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D). The prescription drug plan helps pay for prescription medications your
doctors prescribes to you for treatment. The price of the Prescription Part D depends upon your choice of prescription plans.
