Relapsing Polychondritis

This HypoGal Blog post is about one of my experiences at the National Institutes Of Health Relapsing Polychondritis Clinical Trial.

I participated in the Relapsing Polychondritis Clinical Trial a few weeks ago.

The Rheumatologist from the National Institutes of Health phoned me last Friday to discuss the results of my Toshiba Aquilion One CT test.

This HypoGal Blog Post shares, What Is Relapsing Polychondritis?

What Is The Toshiba Aquilion One Computed Tomography?

The Toshiba Aquilion One CT is an expensive, leading-edge medical equipment that enables doctors to obtain excellent CT images.

The Toshiba Aquilion CT can slice through the body 320 times. Whereas, many Computed Tomography only offer 64 slices.

There is a cost to this advanced Computed Tomography.

The Toshiba Aquilion One CT costs approximately 2.5 million dollars.

While the price of the Toshiba Aquilion One CT is costly, the image quality from a Toshiba Aquilion One 320-slice scan may provide much better patient care through more accurate diagnoses.

The 320-slice volume scan offers 16 cm of imaging area in one rotation.

The high numbers of 320 slices, means that doctors can view the entire heart during one phase, rather than having to take several images and stitching the images together, as with 64-slice scanners.

Below is an example of an image using the Toshiba Aquilion One Computed Tomography

My Toshiba Aquilion One CT Test Results?

The good news is my CT images did not show any damage to my trachea.

The bad news is the CT images did show mild to moderate inflammation on my trachea.

My CT and Pulmonary function test noted, Air Trapping.

What Is Air Trapping?

Air trapping is air that is trapped in your lungs.

A person with an obstructive lung disease, eg. chronic asthma inhales a volume of air, but is unable to exhale the air easily or entirely.

Sometimes, I feel like I am breathing through a straw.

During these times, I am not too chatty.

The results from the CT made me feel validated in why I can have a difficult time breathing, swallowing or talking.

I feel fortunate to have been tested using the Toshiba Aquilion One Computed Tomography.

The National Institutes Of Health has incredible doctors and the newest medical equipment.

I hope with the advancement of medicine a cure for Relapsing Polychondritis will be discovered.
