Many Thanks In Advance!
In my world with the rare disease Relapsing Polychondritis, I seem to take two steps forward and three steps backward.
So, About Relapsing Polychondritis
Relapsing Polychondritis is a rare autoimmune disease that can affect any part of your body where there is cartilage.
My Last Hospitalization With Relapsing Polychondritis
It has been almost three weeks since the excruciating pain on the left side of my neck brought me to the Hospital. The pain was similar to a boiling knife stabbing at different points on your neck.
My two steps forward occurred when a doctor specializing in pain management was able to halt my neck pain. The doctor skillfully injects numerous shots of Solu-Cortef into the left side of my neck.
Within minutes I can move my neck straight and slightly turn my head.
Unfortunately, my three steps backward have gain momentum as the right side of my neck feels as if it may give out at any moment.
Can My Relapsing Polychondritis Be Halted With Higher Steroids And A Neck Brace?
I have an appointment to have the same pain specialist this Tuesday. My timing is not okay. The pain specialist is out of town at a conference this week.
I do not feel comfortable allowing any pain doctor to inject my neck. I have a comfort level with the track record, experience and education of the pain management doctor who gave my neck injections in the hospital.
So, finger crossed my neck does not go out before Tuesday. In the interim, I had an appointment with my Internist yesterday, and he recommends that I triple my already high dose of steroid and to wear a soft neck brace.
My Internist feels by upping my dose of steroids and using a neck brace I should be alright until Tuesday. I hope he is correct.
